Increasing XP shutdown speed

Generally windows takes time to start and also it takes time to shutdown. I have already posted the method of increasing shutdown speed of computer. But, this is the easy way to fasten the shutdown speed.

Increasing shutdown speed by reducing wait times:
Windows XP stores a couple of values in its registry which are responsible for determining how long to wait before shutting down (killing) open applications and services once the shutdown command has been given.
By editing these two settings and changing them to lower values, you can considerably decrease the amount of time that Windows XP needs to successfully shut itself down. The first part of this tweak deals with setting the amount of time Windows will take to kill open applications on shutdown.
Open REGEDIT and navigate to 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\'
Highlight the 'WaitToKillAppTimeout' value.
Set it to '1000' (the default should be 20000).
Now highlight the 'HungAppTimeout' value
Set it to '1000' also.

Smartly clean up system junk files

Compared with DOC system, the visualization of windows operating system makes everything more convenient, faster and easier to use, but what make it a little insufficient is that there will be lots of system junk files coming when using windows operating system. No matter which version: windows 98/2000, or windows XP, after being used for some time, you will apparently find that the C drive is becoming bigger and bigger, which significantly slows down the computer. Besides the installed programs, the other reason is that the generating system junk files, occupying a lot of drive space and slowing down the computer. This is relatively evident in windows XP operating system.
So to speed up your computer, it is necessary to regularly clean up the system junk files— optimize PC performance and free up more available drive space.
To smartly clean up the junk files, what you need to do first is to make all files visible for most of the time we will ignore the hidden files on the computer. You can directly follow the steps below: open My Computer -> Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> tick Show hidden files and folders within the tab: Hidden files and folders.
When using the computer, it is inevitable for us to browse websites and view files, which causes lots of temporary files. Days by, with the increasing amount of the temporary files on the computer, the computer will become slower and slower. So to speed up the computer, a cleanup of the junk files is needed. Normally, these files all located under the directory: C:\Documents and Settings\username\. So please open and the delete the files under the directories below:
1)   C:\Documents and Settings\username\Cookies (All index files after browsing websites)
2)   C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\History (History files).
3)   C:\WINDOWS\Temp, C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp, C:\Documents and Settings\username\LocalSettings\TemporaryInternet Files (Temporary files)
4)   C:\Documents and Settings\username\Recent (Shortcuts for the previous files you have ever viewed)
5)   C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\download (Temporary download files)
6)   C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386, (Driver backup).
7)   C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles (Backups after upgrading SP1 or SP2)
After cleaning up the junk files, you can greatly speed up your computer, but that is not enough. To completely speed up and optimize your computer, it is necessary for you to defragment the computer in a regular basic, making the same files always contiguously so as to easier to get access to, and
To defragment the computer, you can simply go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tool and then select Disk Defragment to begin the defragment process. Here, you can directly select the volume to be defragmented and then click Analyze to see whether it is needs to be defragmented or not. But if you have never run a disk defragmentation, it is recommended that you directly click Defragment button to defragment your computer. But please be patient when using windows built-in defragmenter for it is always a time –consuming process.
Here, to speed up your computer, I recommended you to use a professional defrag program— Advanced Defrag to completely and quickly defragment your computer, which will bring you a completely comfortable defragment experience.
